Podcasting: More Technical Information

1) Use LIST not Grid or Cover Flow

Go to the View menu at the top of iTunes and change how you view your podcasts to LIST

list view

2) Reveal what you have

If you have successfully subscribed to your podcast, you may not be seeing all your selections – UNTIL you click on the little gray arrow to the left of the title, as we show in this animation below. Think of the little gray arrow like opening or closing the drawer of your desk to see what’s inside of it.

3) Use ‘GET ALL’ or ‘GET’ to Download the Talk

As above, when you see the GET ALL button to the right of the main title – you can click it to have iTunes start downloading all the selections – or you can click the GET button to the right of any one selection independently. As iTunes downloads a selection, it will display a little orange circle to the left. If you want it to stop downloading for any reason before it is done, click the gray X in the circle to the right, and it will stop.
Once it has finished downloading, that selection will then have a blue dot to its left, and the title will be black instead of dim gray. The blue dot means “this is a podcast I have yet to listen to.” Once you have listened to this podcast at all, the blue dot is removed.

4) Adjust your Settings Correctly

Within iTunes, at the bottom of the podcast page there is a button called SETTINGS (as shown here). You can also get to this by choosing preferences within iTunes, and choosing the purple tab at the top called “Podcasts”. Make sure you have things set as you wish. If you’re not getting all the episodes, set ‘Download All’ and Keep “All episodes”.

For instance, if you have one episode but not the rest, it means your setting for “When new episodes are available:” is set to “Download the most recent one”. Change it to ‘Download All’, and that should fix it.
