The instantaneous product of desire manifests within the psyche in what we in the West call behavioral drives. Desire is invisible, endless, and universal, but it is within the behavioral drives that desire makes itself apparent. We define who we are based on these drives and their outcomes.

The dynamic of behavioral drives is not one of fulfillment. Be it sex or food or money, it’s not as if at any point in time these drives can be fulfilled and you can put an end to them and move on. After a very short period of satisfaction, you want to repeat them. Drives are of the nature of repetition; they are not meant to be fulfilled, they are meant to be repeated. We derive pleasure not from the fulfillment of the desire itself, but from the ability to repeat the drive again and again.
