There are times in spiritual life that are really difficult. You’re always being pushed beyond yourself; that’s just the nature of the practice. The pain comes from the false refuge you have taken in your attachment to the personal identity, the idea of “I like this” and “I don’t like that.”
Tantra is considered to be the fast path because you are taught to ignore the surface of things and pay attention to the essence no matter what the flavor of the experience. By training yourself to do this you get to a condition of ‘one taste’ where you are able to see the underlying truth of anything. If you remain trapped on the surface, you remain trapped in the endless cycle of attraction and aversion.
