Mahashivaratri, the Great Night of Shiva, is a special occasion in the Hard Light Center calendar. On Shivaratri, we keep vigil from dusk until dawn with pujas and meditation in honor of Shiva, the Lord of Yoga.
Shivaratri is the fulfillment of a promise between the aspect of the Godhead that exists beyond infinity and that aspect of the Godhead we call Shiva. Once a year, at a specific astrological point in the Vedic calendar, the curtain is pulled back. Anyone who cares to look can see into the Beyond.
Over the course of the night, it is good to think of Shivaratri as a conversation between yourself and the inconceivable face of God that arises from within. We sit and we listen. We turn our attention inward and watch this revelation appear within us.
